Two or three years ago, organising a business trip to any other country in Africa didn’t cause too many headaches. Today it’s a different story altogether as African business visas requirements are tightened in some countries on the continent.
Which countries are becoming tougher?
African countries being stricter on business travellers include:
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo,
- Rwanda, and
We have seen countries moving away from only asking for letters of invitation and letters from companies to asking for a long list of documents, statements and certificates.
Even letters of invitations and letters from companies must now meet stricter requirements.
Our advice is to speak to our African immigration department when you start planning any business trip.
This is the only way to stay on top of African business visas requirements and to ensure that you successfully gain entry into African countries.
Is it business as usual in other African countries?

For example, we have had a client denied entry at a border because they did not have a business visa for a seemingly simple site visit.

The other African countries South Africans do not need visas for by law, are:
- Mozambique, and
Again, we advise that you contact us when you start planning your business trip to any of these countries. You don’t want to be stopped at the border and miss out on important business duties or opportunities.
