Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has announced the appointment of Thulani Mavuso as the acting Director-General of the department. Mavuso takes over from the outgoing DG, Mkuseli Apleni, on 1 August 2018.
Mavuso qualified to do the job
The Department of Home Affairs, in a statement released on 30 July 2018, said that Mavuso had vast experience in his field. Prior to taking up his role as acting Director-General at Home Affairs, Mavuso was the Deputy Director-General for Institutional Planning and Support as well as the acting Deputy Director-General for Information Services.
Gigaba appointed Nthumeni Nengovhela as the acting Deputy Director-General for Information Services.
The Department confirmed that outgoing Director-General Mkuseli Apleni facilitated a handover process with Mavuso. The Department wanted to ensure a smooth transition pending Apleni’s departure, who’s left to join the private sector.
Minister Gigaba confident in appointments
Minister Gigaba said he believes the appointments of Mavuso and Nengovhela will strengthen the management of the Department while ensuring there is continuity following the resignation of Mr Apleni.
“The appointments of Mr Mavuso and Ms Nengovhela will ensure a smooth transition given their vast experiences in their respective fields. While we will commence with the recruitment process for the new Director-General including vacant Deputy Directors-General, we needed to put in place a strong team to continue to steer the Department in the right direction as we seek to reimagine a new Home Affairs”, he explained.
